Writing Prompt: Freedom
It’s the 4th of July – Independence Day here in the USA. This year, with all the problems going on in this country and the world, I find myself digging deep to find meaning that goes beyond potato salad, fireworks, and a day off work.
Today, I’m thinking about my values related to independence and freedom. I’m thinking about the importance of freedom for all, and about the systems of power and forms of oppression that limit freedom - in ways big and small.
In the spirit of Independence Day, let’s write about freedom:
🖊️📖 What does freedom mean to you?
🖊️📖 What are your values related to freedom?
🖊️📖 What freedoms do you appreciate in your life? Do you ever take any of your freedoms for granted?
🖊️📖 What important things do you want to do with your freedom?
🖊️📖 Are there limits to your freedom? How is your freedom constrained - on the national level and the personal level?
🖊️📖 Where do you see a lack of freedom in the world around you, and how do you feel about that?
🖊️📖 What are your feelings about the 4th of July this year? What do those feelings tell you about the values that are important to you?
🖊️📖 What freedoms are you willing to speak up about, for yourself and/or for others?
Happy 4th of July! Hope you enjoy that potato salad and day off today, like I will! 🇺🇸🎆
